US-China trade truce extended by two months after top-official meeting
The rollover, agreed in an unscheduled meeting between senior economic officials, extends the truce only for two months but is seen as a near-term stabilizer for businesses tied to US-China trade.
South China Morning Post reports that the US and China agreed to extend their trade truce by two months following an unscheduled meeting between the two countries’ top economic officials.
The outlet says analysts viewed the decision as a sign that both sides are willing to contain trade tensions ahead of a presidential summit this week.
Zhu Tian, an economics professor and vice-president at the China Europe International Business School, said the extension remains encouraging for businesses with exposure to China-US trade.
