Hong Kong drops appeal over 12,000-flat plan on golf course
The Court of Appeal upheld a ruling revoking the project’s environmental approval, citing an unfair consultation process, improper conditions, and missed wildlife conservation goals.
Hong Kong authorities have decided not to appeal a court ruling that overturned environmental approval for a public housing project planned for part of the city’s oldest golf course, putting the 12,000-flat plan in serious doubt, according to SCMP Economy.
The Court of Appeal upheld the earlier decision, which found the endorsement of the project’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) report was flawed due to an unfair public consultation process, the imposition of improper conditions, and a failure to meet wildlife conservation objectives.
The decision is likely to trigger fresh public consultations for the development of 9.5 hectares, or 23.5 acres, of land earmarked for the project, which was initially scheduled for completion in 2029.
