MACOM unveils 3.2-terabit optical chipset as its stock surges

MACOM said the Sept. 17 optical chipset is built from eight 448-Gbps PAM-4 channels, and data rates supported by the design are positioned to support faster AI data-center links.

MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings (NASDAQ: MTSI) said Sept. 17 it has a new 3.2-terabit optical chipset, built around eight 448-Gbps PAM-4 channels, as the company’s shares have more than doubled over the past year, according to Yahoo Finance.

The outlet also noted that MACOM’s newer optical components are intended to increase data rates toward another step-up, and that the company says the components are already available rather than on a purely research timeline. The platform combines drivers, photodiodes, and transimpedance amplifiers for next-generation optical modules.

Separately, Yahoo Finance cited a BMO Capital upgrade to Outperform, with a $335 target, arguing that a decline from a May peak compressed MACOM’s forward valuation to about 29 times earnings while data-center fundamentals remained in place.

Yahoo Finance added that MACOM’s opportunity is tied to content growth as links move toward 3.2T, because higher-speed optical modules require more advanced analog and photonic building blocks, and that the company has already seen changes in institutional ownership and short interest figures cited for August 31.
