Russian drone and missile strikes kill eight in Kyiv and northeast

Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and its northeast killed eight people on Thursday, Reuters reported, with the attacks hitting a maternity hospital and a farm.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in New York for the UN General Assembly, two people died in the latest assault on Kyiv, with residential areas damaged.

The report said Moscow has stepped up its air campaign in recent months, using more faster drones, while Ukraine faces shortages of interceptors to down ballistic missiles.

Zelensky said on Telegram that the strike targeted Kyiv and civilian infrastructure, along with energy infrastructure and logistics.
