SWISCA shifts to full-scope milling solutions after CERES Mill commissioning
The modernized 900-ton-per-day plant is designed to cut pneumatic lifts by about 48% and reduce grinding energy use by roughly 40%, with initial specific energy consumption of 28 kWh per ton.
World Grain reports that Switzerland-based SWISCA AG has transitioned from an equipment manufacturer to a full-scope milling solutions provider after completing turnkey commissioning of the CERES Mill in Brussels, Belgium.
The CERES facility, owned by the Bindewald & Gutting (BiGu) Milling Group, was recently unveiled to 350 industry experts at the inaugural Milling Forum Europe. SWISCA said spatial limits in an existing 11-story silo building drove a vertical engineering approach rather than conventional floor milling.
World Grain says the redesign optimizes gravity for material transport, reducing the need to move milled product pneumatically. The company estimates pneumatic lifts are cut by about 48% compared with conventional setups, lowering overall energy requirements by around 40%, with initial data showing 28 kWh per ton for grinding.
The plant’s two lines of 600 tons per day and 300 tons per day use SWISCA machinery, including 38 ROMIL roller mills and 77 SIFTO plansifter modules that can be installed inside the confined silo across six floors. Because milling operations span 11 levels, the facility is fully automated, with mobile access for managing error localization and adjusting grinding gaps or aspiration settings.
