US military personnel adjust Xi red carpet before Trump welcome
The ceremony at Joint Base Andrews included B-1 Lancer, F-16, and F-22 flyovers, plus an honor guard and a 21-gun salute.
SCMP Economy reports a viral 12-second clip shows uniformed US military personnel on their hands and knees making last-minute adjustments to a 30-metre red carpet at Joint Base Andrews moments before Chinese President Xi Jinping emerged from his aircraft.
The ceremony included military flyovers by two B-1 Lancer bombers, six F-16 fighters, and six F-22 fighters, according to SCMP Economy.
U.S. protocol officials and Chinese figures including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and ministry protocol chief Hong Lei reportedly watched from the aircraft doorway, as Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan at the foot of the stairs.
SCMP Economy says the event also featured an honor guard and a 21-gun salute.
