Xi meets Trump at the White House as traders watch tariffs, Taiwan
Forex and risk sentiment may hinge on any new signals on tariffs or rare earths, after the trade truce was already extended, while U.S. stock indexes were slightly lower on the day.
President Donald Trump is hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House during Xi’s three-day U.S. state visit, with discussions expected to cover trade, technology, Taiwan, and the war with Iran, according to Forexlive.
Forexlive said traders are not assuming outcomes from the talks in advance, focusing instead on whether there is a concrete change on tariffs or rare earths, a shift on technology restrictions, a signal on Taiwan arms sales, or meaningful progress on Iran.
The outlet noted that while a cordial meeting could steady sentiment, it would likely leave broader U.S.-China disputes unresolved unless more specific policy moves are announced.
In the same update, Forexlive reported that U.S. stocks were trading lower, with the Dow down 0.39%, the S&P 500 down 0.24%, and the Nasdaq down 0.48% on the day.
