Bitget raises Sept. 24 hack loss estimate to $387.5 million

Bitget says it will announce a withdrawal plan by Sept. 26 and has suspended withdrawals since detecting unauthorized transfers at 18:31 UTC on Sept. 24.

Bitget increased its estimated loss from its Sept. 24 breach to $387.5 million, up from $351.6 million, after further on chain tracing identified Zcash and TRON assets that were not included in the initial accounting, according to CryptoSlate. CEO Gracy Chen said the revision reflects transfers made during the original incident, and that no additional unauthorized transactions occurred.

The exchange said it first detected unauthorized transfers from some hot wallets at 18:31 UTC on Sept. 24, then suspended withdrawals while keeping deposits and trading operational. Bitget also said its security team identified and patched the underlying vulnerability, based on the latest update.

Bitget said its investigation with blockchain security firms Mandiant and SlowMist remains underway, with additional forensic findings expected as investigators continue tracing and pursuing recovery efforts. CryptoSlate reported Bitget will announce a withdrawal plan by Sept. 26 and that other exchanges, blockchain projects, and security firms are mobilizing to freeze stolen funds.
