SoftBank partners with Autonomous Solutions to scale autonomous construction equipment
SoftBank Group plans to invest $225M in ASI, supporting commercialization of AI-enabled construction vehicles for large infrastructure projects.
Autonomous Solutions Inc., a robotics company focused on self-driving industrial vehicles, is forming a joint venture with SoftBank Group Corp. to develop and commercialize autonomous construction equipment for large infrastructure projects, according to a Bisnow release.
Bisnow reports that SoftBank is investing $225M in Utah-based ASI, which offers equipment that enables construction firms to deploy autonomous vehicles for tasks including on-site excavation and haulage.
ASI equipment is described as integrating an AI-powered command and control platform with onboard computers to manage vehicle functions, sensors to identify and avoid obstacles, and communications technology including GPS, radio, and cameras.
ASI CEO Mel Torrie said the joint venture with SoftBank positions the company for scaled autonomous construction innovation, with equipment intended to be open to major equipment brands on job sites, according to Bisnow.
