HK Electric cuts fuel charge for October electricity bills

HK Electric said its fuel clause charge drops 1.4 HK cents to 59.3 cents per kWh in October, while CLP Power plans to raise energy prices next month.

HK Electric said customers will pay less for electricity in October after the Hong Kong supplier cut its fuel charge for the first time in four months, while warning that international energy prices remain volatile, according to SCMP Economy.

HK Electric, which mainly supplies Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island, said its fuel clause charge will fall by 1.4 HK cents to 59.3 cents per kWh in October.

The company said the charge is a component of the overall tariff and is adjusted monthly to reflect the actual cost of fuel used for power generation.

SCMP Economy also noted that CLP Power, Hong Kong’s other electricity supplier, will raise its energy prices next month.
