Netherlands seeks to scrap EU gas storage mandate
The Dutch government said it has already spent about 1 billion euros, or roughly $1.14 billion, on building gas inventories this summer season.
OilPrice reports that the Netherlands wants to move away from the current EU system of gas storage targets ahead of winter, saying the approach is inadequate and places a heavy burden on governments that must fund compliance with EU-wide obligations.
According to OilPrice, the Dutch government has already spent almost 1 billion euros, about $1.14 billion, building up gas inventories during the summer season.
OilPrice adds that the Netherlands believes the responsibility for filling storage should fall mostly on gas market participants rather than governments.
