Op-Ed warns geological misreads can derail hard-rock lithium projects
Mining.com argues that as governments and investors target lithium-cesium-tantalum, or LCT, pegmatites in a critical minerals market still dominated by brines, the availability of “momentum” depends on developers having the right geological context.
The outlet says that as capital flows into hard-rock lithium projects in Western Australia, Canada, and Africa, a recurring risk is rushing into mining without first understanding the ore.
Mining.com points to Magnum Mining’s Buena Vista project in Nevada as an example of how inadequate mineralogical understanding can lead to processing problems and turn a promising asset into an operational headache.
The op-ed also explains that LCT pegmatites are highly zoned ore bodies shaped by cycles of heat and fluids, which it says can change mineral makeup across different layers and pockets.
