SEC commissioner Peirce urges ending KYC panopticon
Peirce linked the push against strict KYC requirements to recent KYC leaks that she said have exposed crypto holders to phishing and physical attacks.
In one of her final speeches as an SEC commissioner, Hester Peirce argued that regulators should move away from KYC systems she likened to a surveillance “panopticon.”
According to Decrypt, Peirce said the way regulators collect and manage crypto data can create “data haystacks” that undermine the people regulators intend to protect.
Decrypt reported that she pointed to recent KYC leaks, saying they have left crypto holders more vulnerable to phishing attempts and physical attacks.
