Trump diesel export threat sparks UK market jitters

The proposal follows a review by the US Treasury over whether a diesel export halt could work as American diesel prices hit record highs above £4.87.

President Trump’s latest trade threat, involving a push to halt diesel exports, has unsettled markets, with the impact spilling over to Britain amid worries about fuel prices ahead of the November midterms, according to OilPrice.

Earlier this week, Trump said he would support Republican proposals to restrict diesel exports to ease prices, and OilPrice said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated a review was underway on whether such a ban could be effective.

OilPrice added that the review comes as American diesel prices reached record highs of over £4.87, intensifying attention on whether export limits could reduce costs.
