US and China urged to set AI safety guardrails
The call came at a Singapore forum during FutureChina, where speakers linked AI safety to broader concerns about robotics and fast-changing global power dynamics.
The United States and China should cooperate to establish safety guardrails for artificial intelligence, according to leading scholars and industry figures speaking at a Singapore event.
At the FutureChina Business Forum on Friday, Jude Blanchette, managing director of consultancy Macro Advisory Partners, said the need for cooperation is especially urgent amid shared concerns about how emerging technologies like AI and robotics could affect society and risk global stability.
Blanchette argued the world is shifting toward a “technocene,” where exponential technological breakthroughs could reshape global power dynamics, making stronger controls necessary as AI development accelerates.
He also said the two superpowers should seek common ground despite escalating geopolitical tensions.
