Wall Street closes higher as Microsoft and AI stocks climb
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both ended higher, even as high oil prices and a jump in Treasury yields added to investor caution.
Wall Street ended higher on Friday, with gains led by Microsoft and other AI-related technology stocks, according to Reuters. The move capped a volatile week as investors weighed uncertainty over which industries could benefit from artificial intelligence.
Investors also stayed on edge due to high oil prices and a recent surge in US Treasury yields, alongside concerns related to the US war with Iran. Reuters reported that the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished the day higher amid the turbulence.
Microsoft shares rose after the company unveiled new capabilities for its Copilot app, including a coding tool and an always-on AI agent, Reuters said. Akamai Technologies jumped after announcing an $11.6 billion cloud services deal with AI firm Anthropic.
Akamai’s deal includes a warrant that could give Anthropic up to 5% of Akamai, Reuters reported. Reuters also noted that Meta Platforms dipped, despite its stock having risen about 13% over the week on strong reception to its Muse AI agent.
