North Korean hackers linked to nearly $388M Bitget theft, CEO says

Bitget said the $388.0 million figure reflects a more complete accounting of transfers, after first reporting more than $350.0 million.

Bitcoin Magazine reports that crypto exchange Bitget released additional details about Thursday’s hack, with the incident linked to North Korean hackers.

Bitget’s CEO, Gracy Chen, said Friday that the theft totaled close to $388.0 million in digital assets, citing a more complete accounting of transfers during the incident after an earlier report of over $350.0 million.

Security firms first flagged unauthorized transactions from Bitget’s hot wallets, and the exchange later froze withdrawals.

Bitcoin Magazine also noted that Bitget is the sixth biggest crypto exchange, processing more than $1.0 billion in trading volume per day, according to CoinGecko data.
