Dormant Bitcoin whale transfers nearly 4,500 BTC in $379M move
The transfer was confirmed on Sept. 25, 2026, and the long-held 4,499.99986261 BTC input had been untouched for more than four years before moving.
Crypto data cited by CryptoSlate shows a Bitcoin address activated after years of inactivity, sending 4,499.99987779 BTC to a single destination in a transaction confirmed at 02:30:04 UTC on Sept. 25, 2026.
The receiving output remained unspent as of a 13:33 UTC check, leaving nearly 4,500 BTC visible at one address after the move. CryptoSlate also notes the transaction occurred during a BTC/USD trading window where the estimated value of the output was about $379 million to $382 million.
The article says the move spent eight outputs from the source address and created one output at the destination. Its largest input, 4,499.99986261 BTC, was originally received on April 21, 2022, and had not moved for more than four years prior to the Sept. 25 transfer.
CryptoSlate adds that while the address was largely inactive, its transaction history shows seven later deposits between Dec. 30, 2024 and Sept. 11, 2026, totaling 2,821 satoshis, or 0.00002821 BTC. Those small payments continued to reach the address even as the principal balance remained untouched.
