Afghanistan says 28 fighters were killed in Nuristan after crossing from Pakistan

Afghanistan also said it wounded 32 fighters in the eastern province of Nuristan during the clash and accused Pakistani militias of backing the group, which Pakistan denied.

Afghanistan’s defence ministry said its forces killed 28 fighters and wounded 32 in Nuristan in the country’s east after a group that Afghanistan said included Islamic State militants travelled from Pakistan, according to Reuters as carried by SCMP Economy.

The ministry alleged Pakistani militias supported the fighters and said most of them were former Afghan government security personnel.

Pakistan’s information ministry rejected the allegations, calling them “frivolous, baseless and devoid of any truth” in a social media post.

Afghanistan also denied that Pakistan’s security forces or intelligence agencies were involved in clashes in Nuristan, said Pakistan had not recruited or trained former Afghan security personnel, and rejected claims that it facilitated Islamic State or other militant groups in Afghanistan.
