Paul Chan says Hong Kong can provide AI governance solutions

Chan said Hong Kong’s common law system and internationally connected legal and standards expertise can help major economies address AI data, compliance, and risk management.

Hong Kong’s finance chief, Paul Chan Mo-po, said the city can offer trusted solutions in artificial intelligence governance to major economies, drawing on its common law system and related legal and professional strengths, according to a statement published in his weekly blog.

Chan said as major economies begin discussing AI governance, data, compliance, and risk management, Hong Kong can leverage its ability to provide “rules” and “trust.”

He pointed to advantages including common law, biliterate and trilingual legal talent, internationally connected standards, professional services, and strong financial support.
