Swiss voters reject proposal to tighten neutrality rules

Swiss voters on Sunday rejected a proposal to tighten Switzerland’s neutrality rules, final results showed, dismissing an initiative championed by a hard-right party and criticized by opponents as “pro-Russian,” according to SCMP Economy. The vote exposed disagreement over what neutrality should mean in practice, even though Switzerland widely embraces neutrality.
According to the final results, the proposal was rejected by 70.1 percent of voters. Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said the outcome was not a vote against neutrality when results were announced in Bern, per SCMP Economy.
