AIIB targets about $20 billion in annual financing by 2030

The plan was announced at the bank’s 11th annual meeting in Doha, with the AIIB saying member economies want more project funding for infrastructure.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank plans to double its annual financing to about US$20 billion by 2030, its president said as the Beijing-headquartered lender entered its second decade, according to SCMP Economy.

AIIB President Zou Jiayi made the announcement at the opening of the bank’s 11th annual meeting in Doha, Qatar, and said member economies had voiced a consistent need for more project funding.

Zou said she has visited about 30 member countries since taking office, and argued that modern infrastructure is increasingly viewed as a long-term “force of transformation” for strengthening economies.

The president added that member states see infrastructure investment as requiring both more infrastructure and more financing, rather than being only physical assets.
