Congo ruling party member killed after promoting Ebola prevention on radio

A senior member of Congo’s ruling UDPS party was beaten to death after appearing on a radio program promoting Ebola prevention measures, according to a party representative cited by SCMP Economy.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Butembo, North Kivu province, which has recently become a hotspot in the ongoing Ebola outbreak, the outlet reported.

SCMP Economy said the UDPS federation in Butembo stated the attackers beat him, looted his belongings, and set his house on fire, and it was not immediately clear who carried out the attack or what motivated it.

The broader outbreak has left at least 3,901 people dead, SCMP Economy added.
