Heat pump sales rise across Europe as electricity taxes are cut
European Heat Pump Association data shows 1.16 million residential units were sold in the first half of the year across 12 countries, up from 1.05 million a year earlier.
Sales of residential heat pumps increased across Europe in the first six months of the year, helped by the war-related jump in oil and gas prices and by some governments lowering electricity taxes, according to the European Heat Pump Association.
EHPA said homeowners bought 1.16 million heat pumps across 12 European countries, up from 1.05 million in the first half of 2025.
The EHPA also linked slower heat pump adoption to tax systems that charge electricity at higher rates than gas, saying those setups tend to increase reliance on fossil fuels.
It attributed part of the demand shift to disruption of oil and gas shipments following Iran’s de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which it said severely affected supply flows and contributed to higher energy prices.
