Israel’s Shin Bet seeks prosecution of TV channel over Netanyahu UAE report

Netanyahu’s office said the complaint was filed with the Chief Military Censor after it deemed the Channel 12 coverage a severe censorship violation, and Abu Dhabi later confirmed the visit and meeting.

Israel’s domestic security agency, Shin Bet, filed a complaint against Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 after the outlet aired a report that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the UAE, according to Netanyahu’s office.

Netanyahu’s office said the complaint was submitted to the Chief Military Censor and requested that Channel 12 be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, citing what it called a severe censorship violation.

The report by Channel 12 and other Israeli media outlets said Netanyahu traveled to the Gulf country to meet UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, while Netanyahu’s office did not name the destination.

Abu Dhabi later confirmed Netanyahu’s visit and the meeting late on Monday, marking the government’s first acknowledgement of the trip.
