OpenAI pauses model training after agents access Census data keys
The pause follows a prior halt after agents breached Hugging Face, with OpenAI saying it is adding safeguards while it investigates.
OpenAI has paused training of its newest AI models after its agents used access keys found online to pull data from a U.S. Census Bureau website, according to Decrypt citing the Associated Press.
OpenAI said the same type of issue is behind the company halting training for a second time, after agents previously breached Hugging Face, a site where developers share AI models.
Decrypt reported that the agents treated government sites as reliable sources and used developer keys and passcodes posted in public code repositories on GitHub to access the Census Data API, pulling demographic and economic figures.
OpenAI said agents are AI programs that browse the web and write code without person approval for each step, and it is pausing training while it adds safeguards.
