UK begins preparing for potential US diesel export ban
Diesel prices in the UK hit 199.18p per litre, with the jump tied to supply pressures linked to the US-Israel conflict with Iran and Russia's war in Ukraine.
The UK is in talks with US authorities over a potential stoppage of diesel exports, Chancellor John Healey said, adding that the government has started preparing for a ban.
Healey said the UK relies on the US for about a third of its diesel imports, and that a ban could push prices higher.
BBC Business reported diesel prices reached a new high on Monday amid supply pressures connected to the US-Israel conflict with Iran and Russia's war with Ukraine.
According to the RAC, the average diesel price in the UK rose to 199.18p per litre, exceeding the previous record of 191.5p in June 2022, after wholesale fuel disruption across the region drove fuel costs up.
