UK plans to keep control of Britain’s finances, Healey says
The GBP/USD pair was up 0.17% to around 1.3265 after Healey’s comments.
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey told an audience during a European trade session that the administration will maintain control of Britain’s finances as it discusses the upcoming fiscal budget this year, according to FXStreet.
FXStreet reported that the British pound strengthened versus the US dollar following the remarks, citing a rebound in GBP/USD driven by a correction in the US dollar.
At the time of publication, the GBP/USD exchange rate was up 0.17%, trading near 1.3265, FXStreet said.
FXStreet also noted background on sterling’s FX role, including that GBP is the fourth most traded currency unit globally and that it accounts for 12% of all FX transactions on average, based on 2022 data.
