Atlas Critical Minerals estimates 17.2 million tonnes at Malacacheta graphite project
The Malacacheta resource includes 7.0 million inferred tonnes at 5.4% graphitic carbon.
Atlas Critical Minerals said its Malacacheta graphite project in Brazil has been assigned a compliant, publicly reported resource estimate, positioning it as South America’s largest such graphite resource, according to Mining.com.
The initial estimate for Malacacheta calls for 17.2 million indicated tonnes grading 5.73% graphitic carbon, equivalent to about 986,000 tonnes of contained graphite, while also including 7.0 million inferred tonnes at 5.4% graphitic carbon for roughly 378,000 tonnes of contained graphite.
The company said the indicated grade is about 25% higher than Graphite One’s Graphite Creek project in Alaska, described as the largest graphite resource in the United States.
Atlas CEO Marc Fogassa called the resource a milestone for the company and for graphite supply in the Americas, adding that Brazil is already a leading graphite producer used in lithium-ion batteries and nuclear reactors.
