Bain says AI firms need $6T in annual revenue by 2031 to justify data centers
The report projects existing AI services could supply up to $1.8T of annual revenue, leaving a $4.2T gap that would require entirely new markets to close.
A Bain & Co. report says the artificial intelligence industry must generate $6T in annual revenue by 2031 to justify the ongoing surge in data center development.
The report estimates existing AI services, spanning both consumer products and enterprise applications, could generate up to $1.8T in annual revenue, which would still leave a $4.2T funding gap by 2031.
Bain said the gap would have to emerge over the next four and a half years and that productivity gains from current enterprise and consumer applications would not be enough.
The consulting firm added that entirely new markets may be needed, noting it is unclear where the remaining revenue will come from.
