ECB opens digital euro innovation program for AI agent payments
The experimentation track runs from January through June 2027, with selected firms building prototypes for features like e-receipts and conditional payments.
Cointelegraph reports that the European Central Bank has opened applications for a new round of its digital euro innovation platform, aiming to explore how AI agents could be used for digital euro payments.
The ECB is seeking fintechs, payment firms, and other organizations to examine AI agents and machine-to-machine interactions as it prepares a separate digital euro pilot for 2027, according to Cointelegraph.
The program splits efforts between hands-on testing of payment features and workshops focused on potential future uses, with the experimentation track scheduled for January through June 2027.
On the testing side, selected participants are set to develop prototypes for e-receipts, multiparty transactions, conditional payments, and new front-end features, while workshops in the first half of 2027 will cover other digital euro applications, Cointelegraph said.
