Euro slides near yearly lows as US dollar strengthens

EUR/USD traded around 1.1338, hovering just above 1.1324 YTD lows, and is set for a 2.4% monthly decline in September.

The euro kept falling on Tuesday, with EUR/USD holding near year to date lows as the US dollar drew support from high US Treasury yields and stronger US macroeconomic data, according to FXStreet.

FXStreet said EUR/USD was trading around 1.1338, just above YTD lows near 1.1324, and that the pair was on track for a 2.4% monthly decline in September.

On the US side, the Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index deteriorated to -16.5 in September from -15.5 in August, while economic sentiment eased to 97.9 from 98.4 and services sentiment rose to 6.1 from 5.6.

FXStreet also cited eurozone figures that did not provide meaningful support for the currency, and referenced Peter Kazimir of the ECB and the National Bank of Slovakia, who said a September rate hike was unavoidable but called for more flexibility, pointing to January for further policy repricing.
