Israeli air strike kills Hamas armed wing commander in north Gaza

The strike hit a building in Gaza City’s Nasr neighbourhood around dawn, and a second person died from wounds, health officials said.

An Israeli air strike in north Gaza killed Izz al-Din Al-Beik, the head of Hamas’ armed wing, officials on both sides said, with Hamas confirming his death, according to Reuters via SCMP Economy.

Israel’s government said its military targeted and killed Al-Beik for his alleged role in planning attacks and recruiting, and Hamas described him as a leader behind the October 7, 2023 attack that triggered the war in the Palestinian enclave.

Medics said the strike hit a building in Gaza City’s Nasr neighbourhood around dawn, and health officials said a second person died from wounds after the attack.
