Labour leadership seeks to reassure corporate Britain at conference

At a private CBI reception in Liverpool, chancellor John Healey told executives the government would help firms facing rising costs.

The Guardian reports that Labour is trying to repair relations with corporate Britain and reassure City bond traders as the UK approaches next month’s budget, with the backdrop including the Middle East war.

According to the report, chancellor John Healey told executives at a private Confederation of British Industry reception in Liverpool that the government would do “our bit” to support firms struggling with rising costs, while also saying the budget would have fiscal discipline at its core.

The event included HSBC and National Grid, and the piece notes that some executives said Healey’s conference speech was well received, though the report also says many bosses remained uneasy about possible tax rises in the budget.
