RBA lifts cash rate to 4.6%, highest since 2011

The Reserve Bank of Australia said inflation fears are starting to materialize and it is prepared to raise rates again.

The Reserve Bank of Australia lifted its key cash rate to 4.6%, the highest level since 2011, from 4.35% before Tuesday’s meeting, in a decision described as unanimous by the rate setting board.

HousingWire reports (The Guardian Business, in its market coverage) that the RBA warned of further hikes, saying inflation concerns are beginning to be realized and that it is ready to lift interest rates again.

The RBA pointed to a broadening Middle East conflict and strong AI-related demand as global factors pushing up prices, with the fourth increase to the cash rate this year expected to add to mortgage repayment costs for millions of borrowers.
