Indian benchmark indexes fall for a second straight session
The Nifty 50 fell about 571 points across the prior two sessions, while the Sensex recorded more than 1,800 points in losses over the same span.
Indian equities extended their losing streak into a second straight session, with the Nifty 50 opening lower at 22,732 and dropping to an intraday low of 22,569. The index recorded a dip of more than 550 points over the last two days, according to LiveMint Markets, losing around 571 points across the two-session stretch.
The BSE Sensex similarly opened lower at 72,633 and touched an intraday low of 72,064, logging more than 1,800 points in losses across the two straight sessions. The Bank Nifty opened at 54,283 and hit a low of 53,785, with losses of around 1,800 points in successive sessions.
LiveMint Markets attributed the selloff to factors cited by stock market experts, including rising bond yields globally, elevated crude oil prices, and expectations around a weak earnings season. The coverage also pointed to a weaker Indian rupee and market chatter about a fast approaching high interest rate regime.
