Standard Chartered expects India MPC to hike repo rate to 5.50%
The bank expects an additional 25 basis point increase in December, citing domestic inflation, strong GDP growth and hawkish MPC minutes.
Standard Chartered Global Research expects India’s Monetary Policy Committee to raise the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% in October, followed by another 25 basis point hike in December, according to FXStreet.
The research attributes the projected path to rising domestic inflation, robust GDP growth, and hawkish signals in the MPC’s minutes.
FXStreet notes the India rate view comes as traders digest central bank comments in other markets, including AUD/USD moving to nine-week lows below 0.7000 after Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Michele Bullock made cautious remarks.
