White House weighs using red-dyed diesel to ease high fuel prices
The proposal is aimed at increasing availability of a tax-free diesel alternative if a diesel export ban is approved, according to sources cited by Reuters.
The U.S. federal government is considering an alternative to a potential diesel fuel export ban that it hopes could reduce price pressure at the pump by increasing access to a tax-free type of diesel, Reuters reported, citing unnamed sources.
The sources said it is unclear whether the idea would replace any export ban or complement it if such a ban were approved.
The fuel in question is red-dyed diesel, according to the report.
