30-year US Treasury yields hit highest level since June 2002
The 30-year yield rose to 5.544% in the New York session, after earlier crossing 5.6% for the first time since June 2002.
LiveMint Markets reports that US Treasuries were in focus after yields on the longest-dated government bonds climbed to their highest levels since 2002 during the New York session.
The outlet said the 10-year Treasury yield extended gains to 5.214%, up around 1%, while the 30-year yield rose 0.90% to 5.544% and earlier crossed 5.6%, reaching 5.644%, its highest level since June 2002.
Yields later stabilized across maturities after the earlier increase, as traders weighed a surge in oil prices and the possibility of additional Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, according to LiveMint Markets.
The story attributed the sell-off to higher-for-longer Fed rate expectations, elevated oil-driven inflation risks, heavy government borrowing, and resilient US growth amid a large AI investment cycle.
