Chinese CEOs left out of Xi-Trump summit state dinner invitations
The exclusions were linked to breakdowns in US-China coordination, differences over reciprocity, and the White House’s unclear stance toward Chinese investment in the United States.
Chinese business leaders who traveled to Washington for the Xi-Trump summit were excluded from attending a White House state dinner honoring Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, despite spending the evening on the sidelines after invitations did not arrive, according to SCMP Economy.
The outlet said their participation had been under consideration until the final hours of the summit, but they were ultimately left out due to poor communication between the two governments and differing views on reciprocity.
SCMP Economy also cited the White House’s unclear attitude toward Chinese investments in the United States as a factor behind the decision, noting that the issue had been actively discussed between Washington and Beijing for weeks.
