Euro rebounds versus yen but remains slightly lower

EUR/JPY traded around 178.13, after bouncing off a 177.35 year-to-date low as yen weakness persisted.

The euro recovered much of its early losses against the Japanese yen during the European session on Wednesday, but remained 0.14% lower at around 178.13, according to FXStreet.

The cross regained ground after testing a year-to-date low near 177.35, with the yen described as under pressure.

FXStreet said MUFG linked the move to concerns that the US and Japan could intervene together if excessive USD/JPY volatility continues, adding that recent media reports cited comments from US President Trump raising concerns about yen weakness.

FXStreet also noted Japan Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said she agreed with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on boosting cooperation following phone talks on September 25, while adding that she views an undervalued yen as problematic.
