FBI tells staff to assume personal data was stolen in alleged hack
The memo stems from a claimed breach of FBIjobs.gov, with ShinyHunters alleging it obtained 2 to 3 terabytes of data, including names, phone numbers, and home addresses.
The FBI has told its employees to assume hackers may have obtained their personal information, according to an internal memo reported by Decrypt, citing Reuters.
The warning is tied to an alleged compromise of the bureau's jobs site, FBIjobs.gov, where ShinyHunters claims it holds data on nearly all FBI agents and people who applied for an FBI job.
ShinyHunters is said to claim a data haul of 2 to 3 terabytes, including names, phone numbers, home addresses, and sometimes spouse details, and says the intrusion began Monday night with a banner appearing on the site.
The group also attributes its access to a previously unknown vulnerability in Oracle's PeopleSoft software used by many organizations for HR, describing it as a so-called zero-day, while the FBI has not confirmed the breach method.
