Fed Governor Williams says there is no urgency after September hike

He said another rate increase is likely this year if the economy meets expectations, while noting inflation could end at 3.5% this year and reach the Fed’s 2% goal by 2028.

New York Fed Governor John Williams said there is no need for urgency after the September rate hike, a view described as dovish that pushed the US Dollar Index, DXY, modestly lower while keeping it positive on the day, according to FXStreet.

Williams said additional data would guide future policy decisions and added that if the economy meets expectations, one more hike is likely this year.

He also projected that inflation would likely end at 3.5% this year and would reach the Federal Reserve’s 2% goal by 2028, FXStreet reported.
