Foreign oil executives gather in Caracas for Venezuela summit

Hundreds of oil executives have arrived in Caracas for the Venezuela International Oil & Gas Summit, the first major industry event in the country in decades, according to OilPrice.

The summit comes about nine months after the United States captured Nicolas Maduro, installed a U.S.-friendly administration, and said it would open Venezuela’s oil reserves, described as the world’s biggest, to development by international companies.

OilPrice reports that the event is taking place amid a push to involve foreign energy firms in Venezuela’s oil sector, with executives gathering in Venezuela’s capital for the industry meeting.
