India to close stock exchanges on Oct. 2 for Gandhi Jayanti
NSE’s 2026 calendar also flags Dussehra on Oct. 20 and Diwali on Nov. 10 as additional trading shutdown days.
India’s NSE stock market is scheduled to close on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, according to the exchange’s 2026 holiday calendar. The closure creates a three day break from trading around the weekend, with trading resuming the following week.
The calendar also lists other scheduled equity trading holidays, including Dussehra on Oct. 20, 2026. Later in the year, trading is set to stop for Diwali on Nov. 10, Guru Nanak Jayanti on Nov. 24, and Christmas on Dec. 25.
The holiday schedule extends beyond equities, with the report noting that commodities trading will also halt on these same days. It also mentions Muhurat Trading scheduled for Nov. 8.
