Indian large caps trade near multi-year lows as FIIs keep selling
The Nifty 50 is down 13.4% year to date, versus gains in the Nifty Smallcap 100 over the same period.
LiveMint Markets reports India’s equity market is seeing a widening split between large-cap stocks and broader indexes, with several blue-chip names trading near multi-year lows even as mid- and small-cap measures have held up better.
The outlet says the Nifty 50 is down 13.4% year to date, compared with a 1.8% decline in the Nifty Midcap 100, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 has gained 8.8% over the same period. Over the past month, the Nifty 50 is down 6.5%, the Midcap 100 is down 7.4%, and the Smallcap 100 is down 4.1%.
Among large caps, Reliance Industries is trading at a three-year low, with the stock down 24.7% year to date, 7.7% over one month, and 4.9% over one week, the report adds.
LiveMint Markets also highlights weakness near five-year lows across several companies, including Infosys, TCS, Hindustan Unilever, and HDFC Bank, with year-to-date declines of 38.9% for Infosys, 36.3% for TCS, 19.3% for HUL, and 28.0% for HDFC Bank, as persistent selling pressure from FIIs continues.
