Insurers expect further property reinsurance price declines in 2027
Moody’s said about 38% of cedents expect 2027 portfolio-wide pricing to drop by 7.5% to 15%, with nearly 20% anticipating declines greater than 15%.
Insurers expect property reinsurance prices to fall further in 2027, according to Moody’s Ratings, based on its latest reinsurance buyers survey of cedents.
Moody’s polling found that around 38% of respondents anticipate portfolio-wide property reinsurance pricing to decline between 7.5% and 15% next year, while almost a fifth expect drops of more than 15%.
The survey indicates that the expected 2027 softness follows a year in which prices already fell by double digits during the 2026 renewals.
Moody’s also cautioned that pricing expectations could change quickly if a major catastrophe occurs before the January renewal season.
