Italy’s September CPI rises 4.2% y/y, signaling faster price pressures
The monthly CPI increase was 0.7%, with energy and unprocessed food again leading the move.
Italy’s preliminary September inflation data showed a faster pace of price growth, with the consumer price index rising 4.2% year on year, up from 3.3% in August, Istat data showed, according to Forexlive.
Forexlive reports that on a monthly basis, CPI increased 0.7%, and the acceleration was largely driven by energy, where regulated energy inflation jumped from 18.6% to 25.9% year on year and non-regulated energy inflation rose from 17.0% to 22.2%.
The outlet also noted that unprocessed food prices picked up, both on an annual basis and by 2.2% month on month, while energy continued to dominate the monthly increase as regulated energy prices rose 5.9% and non-regulated energy prices gained 4.4%.
Forexlive further said inflation excluding energy increased to 2.0% year on year from 1.7% previously, and core inflation excluding energy and unprocessed food accelerated to 1.7% from 1.5%.
