Wealth of UK energy and food magnates rose as essentials costs climbed
The analysis links higher costs for daily essentials to climate shocks, wars, and geopolitical tensions.
An analysis by the Guardian Business found that the wealth of super-rich UK energy and food magnates has surged in recent years even as the cost of everyday essentials has climbed.
The outlet attributed the rise in essentials prices to climate shocks as well as wars and broader geopolitical tensions, pointing to the strains driving up day-to-day costs.
The piece also profiles François Perrodo, who oversees Perenco, described as one of Europe’s largest privately held oil and gas companies, and discusses his personal spending on high-level motorsport participation.
It notes Perrodo raced at Le Mans in June, then returned to compete at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of August, winning there after being a podium finisher at Le Mans.
