Tokyo BitTorrent users face court notices over free adult video downloads

Japanese adult-content downloaders using BitTorrent are increasingly receiving court notices and payment demands, as copyright holders use users' IP addresses to identify alleged infringers, according to SCMP Economy.

The outlet reports that one self-employed man in his 40s in Tokyo started using the file-sharing software after reading about it online, downloading videos before bed and turning the software off the next morning.

SCMP Economy says the copyright claims have led to demands for hundreds of thousands of yen from users who believed they were downloading content for free.
